BLUE JAYS FANS

40+ HR Club (Single Seasons) | 100+ HR Club (Career)

The 40 plus home run club is the group of Blue Jay batters who have hit 40 or more home runs in a single season. Jesse Barfield was the first member of the Toronto Blue Jays to knock at least 40 baseballs out of the park in 1986.

Jose Bautista
No. 1 – 54 Home Runs in 2010

On September 17, Jose Bautista set the new Blue Jays single-season home run record with his 48th home run, breaking the record set by George Bell. On September 23, Bautista became the 26th player in Major League Baseball history to reach the 50-home run mark in a season. His 52nd home run set a new MLB record for the largest single-season increase in home runs, eclipsing Davey Johnson’s 38 home run increase from 1972 to 1973. Bautista finished the 2010 season with an MLB-leading 54 home runs, the highest total since Alex Rodriguez hit 54 in 2007. Bautista won the AL Hank Aaron Award and a Silver Slugger Award for his offensive performance.

With an opposite-field laser beam on October 3rd, Guerrero notched home run No. 48, the most in an age-22 season or younger in Major League history. Guerrero finished as the American League leader in OPS (1.002) and the Major League leader in runs (123) and total bases (363).

George Bell
No. 3 – 47 Home Runs in 1987

In his best season, George Bell was the 2nd Blue Jay to crack 40 home runs in 1987 — a year after battery mate Jesse Barfield accomplished the feat with 40 exactly. He led the Blue Jays in a stirring race for the division title, ultimately falling two games short of the Detroit Tigers. Bell finished with a .308 BA, .352 OBP, .608 SLG, 111 R, 47 HR and 134 RBI. He was awarded the American League MVP award that year. Only Carlos Delgado and Joe Carter have hit more home runs in a Toronto uniform than Bell, who clubbed 202 homers in his Blue Jay career.

His club record of 47 home runs in a season held strong for 23 years, until Bautista hit 54 in 2010.
